SAVE THE DATE: UPPER × SPINE Joint Final Event – 10 March 2027
How can European cities make public transport the first choice for everyday mobility?
Public transport has a vital role to play in making our cities greener, healthier and more accessible. With urban areas responsible for 23% of the EU's transport-related greenhouse gas emissions (European Commission), making public transport a more attractive and reliable alternative to private vehicles is an important part of the solution.
Since 2023, UPPER and SPINE, two sister projects funded under the same Horizon Europe call and part of the CIVITAS Initiative, have been testing a wide range of measures in cities across Europe, from improving public transport services and connections to testing digital tools, shared mobility solutions and new approaches to urban mobility planning.
Now, as both projects come to an end, it's time to share what we've learned and look ahead!
Which measures have made a difference? What challenges have cities faced? And how can successful solutions be replicated and scaled up across Europe?
The UPPER × SPINE Joint Final Event will bring together European policymakers, city representatives, public transport authorities and operators, researchers and mobility professionals to explore these questions through high-level policy discussions, city experiences and interactive exchanges.
Beyond reflecting on the projects’ achievements and lessons learned, we’ll also share the policy recommendations and practical guidance developed through the projects, and explore how these can help other cities build on their experiences and inform future EU policies and programmes.
Further details on the programme and registration will be shared soon. Save the date!
