3 more UPPER cities were awarded with the EU Mission Label
After Valencia and Mannheim, three more Upper cities were awarded with the EU Mission Label. Congratulations to Thessaloniki, Leuven and Guimaraes (Lisbon) as it recognise the cities' plans to achieve climate-neutrality already by 2030 and aims to facilitate access to public and private funding towards that objective.
The EU Mission Label was awarded by Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth during a ceremony held in Brussels with mayors and city representatives at the EU Research & Innovation Days, the biggest forum in Europe to discuss the future of science and innovation and to co-create solutions with citizens and stakeholders.
Deputy Mayor Prodromos Nikiforidis, Thessaloniki, Greece, said: “Thessaloniki has a unique opportunity to set a common vision and develop a comprehensive and contemporary roadmap towards climate neutrality – not an easy task for a densely populated city. Having built the capacity from the participation in the Resilient Cities Network and the Resilient Strategy development, the Municipality of Thessaloniki addresses a participatory and cooperative approach in working towards main urban challenges. Being part of the Mission gives the city of Thessaloniki the mandate to act, to incentivise and enable the stakeholders of the city to work collaboratively. This commitment is valuable proof of Thessaloniki’s endeavour”.
