UPPER at the heart of the mobility of the Paris2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games
Project partner Instant System actively contributed to making the Paris 2024 Jeux Olympiques an exemplary edition in terms of sustainable and accessible mobility for all.
Revolutionizing Mobility Management at Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games
As the world still has all eyes on the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, the Region Ile-de-France and the City of Paris (one of the 112 EU Mission Cities) are making colossal efforts to manage the visitor’s affluence and ensure a smooth and safe mobility for everyone. More than 15 million visitors are expected in the French capital during the Games! Instant System, under the authority of Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), has developed a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) app facilitating the deployment of the transport authority’s measures to ensure seamless navigation through the bustling streets of Paris and its Region during one of the most significant global events. According to Versailles-Grand-Parc Agglomeration, the application Transport Public Paris 2024 has been an efficient tool to implement the specific mobility measures in the frame of this major event. Versailles-Grand-Parc, a partner of UPPER and member of the CITIVAS initiative, has welcomed many visitors of the Games, hosting four Olympic and one Paralympic equestrian trials as well as Modern Pentathlon. The Cycling trials hosted in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines have also generated higher traffic through the agglomeration.
Seamless Travel & Event Experience
The MaaS app offers comprehensive venue information, providing a complete list of Olympic events sites and points of interest (POI) on an interactive map. Users can access detailed information about each location effortlessly, and add the venues that they plan to attend in their favorites for a personalized travel experience. Additionally, real-time alerts on service status are sent to the users according to the Paris 2024 Events that they are attending. Whether it's metro, buses, bikes, or even ride-sharing services, the app ensures that every journey is efficient and hassle-free by providing the best travel routes taking into consideration the affluence and the traffic conditions. Users can plan their routes, book Paris 2024 transport tickets, and access real-time schedules and traffic updates, all within the palm of their hand. For the first time in Europe, the smartphone can be used as a travel card, eliminating the need for a physical "Navigo" pass. The app uses NFC technology to allow direct purchase of transport tickets and passes.
Enhanced Accessibility and Inclusivity
Inclusivity is at the heart of the MaaS app. With features tailored for individuals with disabilities, the app ensures that everyone, including Paralympians and spectators with mobility challenges, is efficiently supported in their mobility. The app provides detailed information on accessible routes, vehicles, and facilities, ensuring a seamless and empowering experience for all.
Sustainability at the Core
In alignment with Paris 2024's commitment to sustainability, the MaaS app encourages the use of eco-friendly transportation options. By promoting public transport and shared mobility solutions, the app contributes to reducing the carbon footprint of the Games. This initiative not only supports the environment but also sets a precedent for future large-scale events.
A Collaborative Effort
The development and deployment of the MaaS app result from a collaborative effort between Ile-de-France Mobilités, the City of Paris, and tech innovators of Instant System, a partner of the UPPER project. This partnership highlights the importance of teamwork and innovation in addressing the mobility challenges of major events. Just like our beloved athletes this Summer, Instant System’s teams are ready to stretch themselves and show team spirit to ensure safe trips for all participants to the Olympic Games! The success of the MaaS app at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games is set to pave the way for future advancements in urban mobility. By leveraging technology to enhance accessibility, sustainability, and efficiency, Paris is not only hosting a spectacular sporting event but also setting a new standard for smart city solutions.
