Leaving no-one behind: safe, accessible and inclusive mobility

As we look at strategies and measures to transition towards more sustainable urban mobility tools is of paramount importance that we take into account and cater to everybody’s needs, ensuring nobody is left behind. In this session, we will discuss from different perspectives (public Transport operators, passengers, solution providers, and city authorities) what steps need to be taken to transform cities and transport systems to become more accessible, affordable, safe, and inclusive while improving the quality of life for all.

This workshop, moderated by Arianna Americo and Francesco Iacorossi, was organised at the Eurocities Mobility Forum Conference in Utrecht, under the UPPER Project EU umbrella, with a contribution from the ELABORATOR Project. This is the first of a series of workshops Eurocities will organize focused on the Mobility-as-a-Right concept, one of the pillars of the UPPER project. The initiative promotes the voice and stories of public transport marginalized citizens and how city administrators and international non-profit associations have successfully engaged with them.

Objectives:
• Inspire cities by providing first-hand experiences on the Mobility-as-a-Right concept as well as on accessibility, equity and inclusivity.
• Share knowledge on safe, accessible and inclusive measures cities have implemented.
• Discuss digital solutions improving the autonomy of people with reduced mobility.

Speakers:
• Niek Verlaan , City of Gemeente Utrecht
• Wenche Pedersen & Kristoffer Schjødt Westad (Ruter As) together with Kathryn Bulanowski
(European Passengers Federation)
• Andrea Canevazzi (AMAT Agenzia Mobilità, Ambiente e Territorio)
• Ellen Townsend (European Transport Safety Council (ETSC)

Interviews of both Ruter, EPF and AMAT can be found here
